This is the fear of many Internet users: having personal data stolen – often when a third-party service is hacked – then hackers publish it on the dark web. Once posted on this kind of parallel web, many people with bad intentions can download them, copy them and misuse them, in particular by carrying out targeted cyberattacks. To help Internet users in this jungle, the Swiss company Proton has just put online a tool to find out if its customers’ personal data is online on the dark web. In 2023, Google launched a similar service. What are they worth?
