A vegan bakery in Long Island, New York has “voluntarily recalled” some of its products. The establishment is also reportedly in the midst of an investigation for allegedly trying to pass off a donut from Dunkin’s Donuts as one of its pastries.

The owner of “The Savory Figure” bakery, Michell Siriani, was reportedly arrested by a vegan grocer after the latter found a suspicious donut mixed in with other products in a recent delivery, the “New York Post” reported.

“I am adamant that I would never pass off a Dunkin donut as gluten-free or vegan,” Siriani told local news outlet “News12 Long Island.”

For its part, CindySnacks – the grocer who denounced the bakery – was not convinced by the baker’s arguments and decided to test the product. According to the result shared on Instagram, a high quantity of gluten was detected.

“We can only assume, given this recognizable logo, where these donuts actually come from and what other ingredients they might contain,” said John, co-owner of the vegan grocery store, who says he is “mortified” at possibly having sold allergenic products to customers.

For her part, Michelle Siriani claimed to have not had any fines until now. “We will implement a new labeling system that will protect our customers from allergens and cross-contamination, and ourselves from product tampering and any future incidents,” she added.
