Samsung unveils its AI-connected home appliances

Samsung Electronics introduced its latest range of home appliances at the press conference organized as part of the global launch “Welcome to BESPOKE AI”, which took place in three cities, Seoul, and New York. Samsung shares its vision of how connectivity can improve the overall home experience and how artificial intelligence (AI) improves device performance.

Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice President, CEO and Director of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, kicked off the event activities by opening the “Welcome to BESPOKE AI” press conference from Seoul by explaining how Samsung home appliances not only perform well at common tasks, but can do more than previously imagined thanks to AI. With screens added to the fridge, induction hob and washing machine, Bespoke appliances become an entertainment hub, as well as an easy-access control center for other Samsung devices connected via SmartThings.

“Since BESPOKE was first introduced in 2019, Samsung Electronics has shown the market how devices can be customized to best fit each user’s home and lifestyle,” said JH Han. “Five years later, we’re sharing our vision for AI in home appliances with products that extend the Bespoke legacy with enhanced connectivity and AI capabilities that will take the customer experience to the next level. »

BESPOKE AI home appliances sync to create new experiences

Samsung’s Bespoke AI devices now feature Wi-Fi, internal cameras, an AI chip and are compatible with SmartThings. This allows centralized control via the 7-inch AI Home touchscreen.

This offers a 3D view of the house to control all connected devices. For example, users can turn down the air conditioning from the induction hob or start the robot vacuum cleaner from the washing machine, while remaining on task. The screen also allows you to receive calls, stream music or watch recipes.

Considering the fact that people usually have their cell phones with them most of the time, Mobile Smart Connect sends a notification to your phone when it is near a registered device, allowing quick control without searching for the remote.

During the event, Samsung also demonstrated how Calm Onboarding Assistant makes setup easier by automatically registering connected devices to your Samsung account. Security is ensured by the Knox platform and certified “Diamond” by UL Solutions.

New features for existing connected devices

Samsung is committed not only to providing a better home experience, but also to creating more innovative and efficient products. The event was of particular significance as it not only showcased the new product lines and features that Samsung is launching, but also globally announced how all Wi-Fi connected devices, including those that customers already have, can evolve.

Samsung continues to improve Wi-Fi connected devices on the market and already in users’ homes through software updates and the development of SmartThings. Users can enjoy new features even with older models, and benefit from additional energy-saving features with previously purchased products. Smart Forward, first announced at the event, is a service that delivers the latest features, security patches and updates through regular software updates. Users will be able to check available update information and receive notifications from the SmartThings app. This gives users peace of mind and also helps reduce the frequency of device replacements.

SmartThings also continues to evolve, allowing users to save more on their energy consumption after purchasing a product. Features such as optimal charging, for example, are added so that users can strategically plan their energy consumption. SmartThings Energy allows users to easily monitor and control the amount of energy consumed by connected Samsung devices. Samsung also plans to launch its new Samsung Rewards program in the near future, which will allow users to get stamps every day if they save a certain amount of energy using AI Energy mode. Accumulated stamps can be converted and used on Samsung.com, Samsung Galaxy Store and other Samsung shopping platforms.

To make the efforts more impactful, Samsung is introducing collaborations to implement solutions to tangibly reduce energy consumption, while making life more convenient for users. Through a partnership with British Gas, by linking SmartThings Energy’s automatic energy demand response feature with British Gas’ PeakSave, Samsung makes it easy for users to enjoy economic benefits by saving energy.

As a crucial player in the home appliance industry, Samsung has revealed its aim to use next-generation technologies for purposes beyond creating innovative products. This involves using engineering solutions that extend product life cycles and reduce the frequency of replacements. Some of the methods introduced at the press conference include hybrid cooling, which incorporates new high-power “Peltier” thermoelectric components in addition to the compressor, which improves cooling efficiency and performance, and low-maintenance filters for air purifiers, eliminating the need for filter purchases or replacements.

Product safety is also an important factor that Samsung prioritizes, and Samsung is working to obtain and expand certifications to prove its product responsibility across all device categories, including product reduction certification. fire risks (RFR) for new products. This will ensure that certified devices are designed to effectively prevent fire incidents caused by the product.

At the end of the event, Samsung also revealed that it is collaborating with Disney and Pixar for the film “Inside Out 2” (released in theaters on June 14), to showcase the features of the new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo washing machine. .
