Republican candidate Donald Trump’s campaign seems to be going through a rough patch. The former US president is less visible and is holding fewer of the big rallies that helped make him famous. And when he does take initiatives, they backfire.

The contrast is striking. On Labor Day in the United States, September 2, Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz made numerous campaign trips to Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. On the same day, Donald Trump and JD Vance’s agenda was empty. The Republican candidate for the November presidential election was content to lash out at his Democratic rival on Truth Social, his Twitter clone.

And yet. In election years, Labor Day is considered in the United States as “the kickoff to the final stretch of the campaign before the election,” CNN points out. Candidates are expected to give their all for the final sprint before the vote on November 5.

A tired candidate?
