The panache of Daniel Pinard — Revue Les libraires

In bookstores, culinary books have been legion for a long time. Daniel Pinard, with his Pinardisesundoubtedly contributed to their growth. Tribute to this discreet, free-speaking giant who passed away this week.

Discreet, Daniel Pinard was not so at the time when he was deployed on TV and radio, not afraid to shake up preconceived ideas in the kitchen nor to disrupt current events with his lucid and uncompromising outlook. His generous presence was manifested in particular in his nobility of spirit, in this way of sharing the light with those whose voices were rarely heard, especially at that time, the 1990s and 2000s. Sociologist by training, Daniel Pinard n he did not hesitate to interweave his culinary remarks with social or political digressions. He was indignant, but just as capable of being ecstatic and appreciating simplicity. Moreover, his kitchen wanted to be unifying, democratic and open, depending on the contents of our cupboards.

Sensitive, curious, intelligent, Daniel Pinard was a great communicator. He knew how to handle words as well as ingredients, and took care to highlight them both. Published by Boréal, his books Pinardisesin 1994, and More pinardisesin 2000, sold extensively. Daniel Pinard knew how to fill the plates of many families and above all, he breathed new life into Quebec cuisine. He gave it substance, emancipated it and made it accessible to everyone. He was also undoubtedly the first to have underlined the importance of eating locally, and therefore opened the way to today’s gastronomic abundance.

Daniel Pinard died at the age of 82 on October 2. Living in the shadows for several years, he never tired of rereading Proust or fueling his curiosity. Long journey for this friendly epicurean, with generous and inspiring verve! We will savor his memory for a long time like his recipes.

Although this one dates back several years, here is an interview with Daniel Pinard, who was our bookseller for a day between our pages.
