Based in Marcillé-Raoul (Ille-et-Vilaine), Aurélie Guévélou-Mironet44, swapped her career as a nurse for a new life as a literary creator. During the Christmas market at the GAEC des Domaines (Saint-Rémy-du-Plain), she presented books that she writes, illustrates and binds herself, the fruit of an atypical career and a commitment to local crafts.
For twenty years, Aurélie Guevelou-Mironet worked as a nurse, a vocation that she says she loved. It was enriching, especially in a school environment where I supported the children in their development. But I felt that I was missing another form of expression.
Originally from Côtes-d’Armor and based in Marcillé-Raoul for thirteen years, she began her reconversion in 2020. What clicked? A story written for his daughter.
She was two years old and I needed to explain something to her in an appropriate way. Words alone weren’t enough, so I added illustrations. It opened up a new field of possibilities for me.
This first book marked the beginning of a new life, centered on writing and illustration.
What makes his books so special?
Aurélie Guevelou-Mironet designs each book as an artisanal work.
She writes the stories, creates the illustrations, prints and binds each copy by hand. The covers, often created from recycled materials, make each book a unique piece.
His books cover various themes: for childrenstories about emotions or non-violence, such as Amari, princess of the desert ; for adultsintrospective texts on the quest for oneself, like The Pillar of the Bridge.
“My books are designed to touch the reader, both through their content and through their production,” she explains.
Where can you discover his work?
The author favors local markets around Marcillé-Raoul.
“I am often at the Dol-de-Bretagne market on Saturdays, in Cancale or Fougères on Sundays,” she says.
