Friday January 31 at 7 p.m. at the Quartier Libre bookstore/associative library (11 grande rue in ), presentation by the author Théo Roumier of the book “Charles Piaget, de Lip aux “thousands of collectives””, published in August 2024 in Libertalia editions.

Charles Piaget (1928-2023) is known for his role in the exemplary and daring strike of Lip workers in Besançon in 1973. But his militant trajectory began twenty years earlier, with the discovery of Christian unionism and the opposition to the Algerian war, and continues beyond with the fight for the abolition of unemployment.

To be interested in it is to meet a profoundly socialist, anti-authoritarian and revolutionary working-class figure.

It is the history of Charles Piaget’s commitments which is proposed here, their context, the debates which inspired or fueled them – notably on self-management, at the PSU and at the CFDT in the 1970s. Commitments which can continue inspire, nourish exchanges and reflections.

By giving ample space to the archives, this book shows how Charles Piaget thought, acted and spoke as an activist: from Lip to his hope of seeing the birth of “thousands of collectives capable of immediately building pieces of the world we want”.

The author:

Théo Roumier is a teacher and trade unionist in a vocational high school.
