“Ouï-lire”: Launch of the 3rd edition of the audio book project at the national library of Tunisia

The National Library of Tunisia (BNT) will host, this Friday, January 10, the launch of the third session of “Ouï-lire”, a project dedicated to audio books.

Organized in collaboration between the BNT and the Abdelwaheb Ben Ayed Foundation (FABA), this event will take place during an official ceremony, from 3 p.m., in the Tahar Haddad conference room.

Launched in 2021 at the initiative of the FABA foundation and in collaboration with the BNT, the “Ouï-lire” project consists of the creation of an audio studio within the premises of the National Library. Its equipment makes it possible to produce sound copies of a set of works,” we can read on the BNT website.

“These audio books are aimed primarily at the visually impaired and blind, as well as at disabled or sick people who have particular difficulty reading books in paper version, but also at all citizens wishing to listen to books read,” indicates the BNT.

“Hearing” is an enchanting journey, a path where words take flight. It gives us the power to see the world differently, illuminates our mind and enriches our thoughts, we can read on the Foundation’s website.

The two institutions work to promote reading and access to books and reading, particularly for the visually impaired and people with specific needs. They produce audiobooks, in Arabic and French, for Tunisian literary, artistic and scientific works. This project involves theater artists, professionals and amateurs, who are introduced to narration and voice-over techniques.

A similar project also exists at the Tunis International Center for the Digital Cultural Economy (TICDCE) through the digital library, ekotbia, which offers digital publications, in different formats, with open access.

Through these projects, literary and cultural publications are increasingly oriented towards the ebook medium which is available in several digital formats adapted to the needs of readers.
