Around 100,000 loans were made to the Guingamp media library (Côtes-d’Armor) this year, all documents combined (99,300 documents can be borrowed). Here are the titles that most appealed to the public this year.
YOUTH SECTOR
1st with 32 loans: the comic My mother and me: the two make a pair. By Marc Cantin and Isabel; drawing by Thierry Nouveau. Cloé adores her mother and her mother adores her… but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to live together! Cloé is sometimes blundering and her mother quickly gets angry! But whatever happens, these two remain inseparable!
2nd with 32 loans: the comic book Asterix and the Griffin. Text Jean-Yves Ferri; drawings Didier Conrad; after René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo. Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix are back for a 39th adventure. Accompanied by the most famous druid, they are about to leave on a long journey in search of a strange and terrifying creature. Half-eagle, half-lion, extremely enigmatic, the Griffon will be the object of this great journey!
3rd with 31 loans: the comic Dad: family secrets. Nob.- Marcinelle. Life goes on for this family like no other! The eldest Pandora is studying for her exams, the teenage Ondine is preparing for a meeting, the young Roxane is playing video games, Bébérenice is asking for food… and Dad would like to finally be able to have some peace and quiet.
4th with 31 loans: the comic Mortelle Adèle, it smells like kibble! Owen, the zombie created by Adèle, is back! And it won’t be too much to help him multiply the stupidities…
5th with 30 loans: the comic book The Legendaries, Danaël. Sobral, Nadou. Having become a Silver Falcon like his father who fell in battle, Danaël travels through Alysia in search of justice and truth.
ADULTS SECTOR
1st with 31 loans: the novel From the same wood. Marion Fayolle; Gallimard, 2023. On a farm, history is reproduced from generation to generation: we take care of the animals, we live with them, those in the stable and those who chew the cud in their heads…
2nd with 30 loans: the novel Blanches. Claire Vesin. The Book Manufacture, 2024. With this poignant first novel, Claire Vesin makes us hear the vibrant voice of those who make up the public hospital and are marked by the ordinary fight waged to provide dignified care.
3rd with 27 loans: the novel The Fisherman’s Dream. Hemley Boom. Gallimard, 2024. With two cleverly intertwined stories, the author creates a powerful and luminous fresco which illuminates both the recesses of consciousness and the mysteries of transmission.
4th with 24 loans: the novel Tosca. Murielle Szac. Editions Emmanuelle Collas, 2024. With this short novel, implacable and disturbing, Murielle Szac gives us a closed session on the razor’s edge between resistance and freedom. An edifying text on the anti-Semitism of the French militia in 1944 which resonates strongly today.
5th with 24 loans: the novel The Waters of the Danube. Jean Mattern. Sabine Wespieser editor, 2024. Alone in the family home in this month of July, someone who has never asked questions, far too anxious to protect himself against any emotion, finds himself confronted with the silences of his own story…
These five works were part of the selection of ten novels competing for the 2024 Louis-Guilloux Prize and were therefore promoted at the Guingamp media library. Also note, in the adult (and teen) sector, the success of the Solo Leveling webtoon series.
FILMS CINEMA
1st with 18 loans: Toni with family. Antonia, known as Toni, raises her five children alone. A full-time job. She also sings in the evening, in bars, because you have to feed your family well. 3rd with 17 loans: the Mildred Pierce series. In the 1930s in California, the social ascension of a divorced housewife, and the conflicting relationship with her eldest daughter, snobbish, contemptuous and cruel.
4th with 17 loans: the documentary Debout les femmes! By Gilles Perret; François Ruffin. Let’s go for the first “parliamentary road movie” to meet the women who take care of our children, our sick, our elderly.
5th with 17 loans: Love and forests. When Blanche crosses paths with Gregoire, she thinks she will meet the one she is looking for. Blanche moves away from her family, from her twin sister, and opens up to a new life. But thread by thread, she finds herself under the influence of a possessive and dangerous man.

3rd with 6 loans: Death counts triple. Robert Thorogood. Editions La Martinière. Death Counts Triple, the first investigation of the Ladies of Marlow, was one of the best-selling cozy mystery novels in France in 2021.
4th with 5 loans: Panorama. Lilia Hassaine. Editions Gallimard, 2023. This breathtaking novel shows beings prey to their impulses and their cracks behind their apparent perfection.
5th with 5 loans: The Hannah Swensen Mysteries 7, murders and cherry cheesecake. Joanne Fluke. Le Cherche Midi. A good dose of suspense, a few hints of the unexpected, a generous handful of twists and turns: all the ingredients come together for a delicious time. Not forgetting new baking recipes as deadly as the new adventures of our Miss Marple from Minnesota!
