Some legends definitely die hard, even if they are as fleeting as that of the Frenchies? The French what? The Frenchies, either a French-fries version of the stunning decadent rock of the New York Dolls or a cocktail of long hair, androgynous makeup and body-built guitars. And two emblematic vocalists, first of all Chrissie Hynde before the Pretenders and the director Jean-Marie Poiré. Alas, the meteoric career of the Parisian group will include only one album and an aftertaste of bitterness for so many hopes dashed by the showbiz machine. Fortunately, this work “The Frenchies” finally sheds light on this UFO training.
In his preface, Philippe Manoeuvre looks back on the very atypical journey of the Frenchies:
“Here is the story of this short-lived French group, “The Frenchies” which appeared in 1973, whose singer was the director Jean-Marie Poiré. Shooting stars of rock, they only produced one album which became cult. A rare combo singing in English at the time, with an outrageously decadent look and glam Music, they made the front page of the trendy press during 1974. In 1975, the future rock star Chrissie Hynde, for some time became its leader. singer before creating the Pretenders. »
