For several years now, the Jean-Christophe Rufin de Sens library has been offering its members Books adapted to the visually impaired and a home service.
There you can find a space made up of around 500 books with large print (up to size 20) and more than 1,000 audio books. Twice a year, the team made up of Kelly Farrelly, Carole Adda and Fabienne Bayer renews the stock of books to expand the space and bring something new, thanks to specialized publishing houses.
Home delivery
The three professionals also offer a home delivery service. They go to people with disabilities (care homes, nursing homes, individuals), with reduced mobility or other difficulties, to bring them audio books and/or large print books. To do this, you have to call the first time to make an appointment, then two of these employees come to the person's home to meet them, get to know each other and get to know the person's tastes. This also helps ensure everyone’s safety.
Afterwards, users can call and request the book they want. The librarians bring the book very quickly and the loan is scheduled for six weeks (a little longer than normal).
“Bringing culture to people who cannot come to the library, accessibility to all, that is our mission,” says Kelly Farrelly, very involved in this project. It also indicates that people without disabilities can use these books to avoid hurting their eyes or benefit from the loan of audio books for relaxing moments or walks.
