The Letras editions of OC d'Oloron – Sainte-Marie have just published a work likely to interest readers from Pays toy, but also elsewhere: “Jean-Pierre Rondou, Vallée de Barèges”.

A personality from Gèdre where he was a teacher, a naturalist recognized as a specialist in Pyrenean butterflies, Jean-Pierre Rondou (1860-1935) is the author of an interesting study devoted to the Barèges Valley which has remained largely unpublished. He wanted to erect this monument as a tribute to his valley and its inhabitants. The book takes up the part that its author brought together under the title, Morals, habits, customs. Throughout the chapters, the reader will be able to discover many facets of the life of men and women in a valley in the central Pyrenees in the 19th century and early 20th century. Rondou's text is a mine of information on pastoral life and management of the valley area: livestock brands, crops and food, relations with the Aragonese, inheritance customs, etc. A study by Jean-François Le Nail, former archivist of Hautes-Pyrénées, devoted to the biography of Jean-Pierre Rondou and his works introduces the work.
