Book Festival at the Langlois Library at UT

Book Festival at the Langlois Library at UT
Book Festival at the Langlois Library at UT

Éditions du Basson organizes, in partnership with the Alfred Langlois Library, the 4th Charleroi book festival.

During these two days, there will be competitions, meetings and activities of all kinds, always fun and a little offbeat!

Throughout the festival

  • Literary experience 1: The writers’ house.
A unique and astonishing live performance in a glass house!
They are crazy, these writers! They are going to write a book live! They will take turns in a glass house throughout the Festival to write a novel.
They will sit down at the table, discover the chapters written by the previous authors and continue the novel (on the principle of the exquisite corpse). They will therefore not be able to prepare their intervention in advance and will write without a net! Visitors will be able to see the text being created live on a screen. It promises!
The goal is that at the end of the Festival, the novel will be finished.
  • Literary experience 2: It happened in mid-November somewhere in Charleroi.
    We are all writers!
All visitors to the Festival will be able to come and sit down and write a story live.
From these two experiences, we will publish a book.
This will be offered for pre-sale during the Festival and then printed.
  • The banquet of the crunchers. On a long table, satirical cartoonists will create a fresco throughout the Festival.
  • The Book corner. Two purchased at the Festival entitle you to choose a free book from our Book Corner.
  • Many signing sessions. More than 100 book signing sessions scheduled.

Occasional animation

  • Meetings-activities for young people-schools (Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.).
  • Late night (Friday 6 p.m.-9 p.m.). We open late on Friday the 15th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to allow working people to discover the Festival. During this evening, we offer a cocktail buffet and a concert to all visitors.
  • A cocktail-buffet-concert (Friday 7 p.m.). We offer a cocktail buffet to the public and a concert by the trio “Tout sweet Philibert”.
  • A speed-dating of authors (Sat 11 a.m.). Participating authors will have 3 minutes to “sell” their manuscript to each editor in front of them.
  • Whispering sessions. The visitor is guided, blindfolded, to a place where a text is whispered to him. (writing workshops)
  • Declaimed performances (Sat 4 p.m.). Shared workshop texts, with explanation of the instructions given. (writing workshops)
  • The little cards. Photo/illustration with a QRcode to scan which gives access to recorded texts. (writing workshops)
  • The aperitif (Sat 1 p.m.). We offer an aperitif and snacks with a literary performance by two editors.
  • The aphoristic javelin throw (Sat 1:30 p.m.). A duo of editors will humorously throw aphorisms at each other’s heads. (An aphorism is a short sentence that says a lot…)
  • The competition. All visitors will be able to fill out a participation form to win a basket filled with numerous books.
