the essential
The results of the first Castres book fair, held at the end of October, are largely positive for its organizers. The Incrés Tarnais are already planning for the 2025 edition, which will be even bigger.
This is what we call a successful premiere. The Castres book fair, for its debut on October 20, succeeded in its challenge: that of bringing together the Castres public around authors and above all a family moment, for a day.
The show, organized by the Les Encrés Tarnais association, brought together more than 1,800 visitors. And the feedback is good: “the authors and the various exhibitors were delighted with their day!” assures Christine Carneau. The dramatized readings by actor Franck Adrien were particularly acclaimed, and the various conferences offered were well attended.
The 2025 show already on the way
A book fair is also the essential jury which awards prizes to authors. The first prize list thus rewarded Yves and Muriel Carchon, novel prize for “Les moisssons de l'exil”, Michel Cals, historical novel prize for “La route blanche”, Anne Waddington, thriller prize for “Obsession” and, because the jury does not was unable to decide between the two works, Jean-Claude Farenc, Laurent Ives and Michel Kiefferf were also awarded prizes.

The organizers of the event wanted to make it a day for everyone, and not just for fans of trade fairs and literature. The program was rich: it found its audience. “The workshops led by the calligrapher, the bookbinder, the Leclerc cultural space and even the students of the Jean-Jaurès college were well attended. Finally, the introduction to boxing, which could only be done once. only once, attracted many visitors. Anne Veaute's students who hosted and sold raffle tickets, and IUT Multimedia students who conducted interviews throughout the show, contributed to the event. liven up this day”, explain the Encrés Tarnais.
This success of “Castres s’enlivre” therefore calls for a sequel: the second edition is already in the pipeline. “Given the success achieved and the numerous registration requests for next year, already 80 candidates, we are planning two days of the show, October 18 and 19, 2025, still at the Gérard-Philipe room”, continues, delighted, Christine Carneau. Always with this desire to open the show to the general public: “we are in the process of preparing, with various local cultural partners, activities on the Thursday and Friday preceding, in order to offer schoolchildren the opportunity to participate.”
The first chapter of the Castres book fair is written: for the Encrés Tarnais to continue the story.
