This is unfortunately a topical subject. On the occasion of the international day against violence against women (November 25), Brigitte Rochelandet, from Franche-Comté, will host a conference on November 19 (at 3 p.m.) in Besançon (David room). A doctor in the history of mentalities, specialist in the history of women, she “tries to understand how misogynistic discourse was constructed in order to stop it”.

The “three natural openings”!

In her work, she perfectly shows that violence against women has persisted since prehistoric times. Humiliation, sexual violence, femicide… When reading the pages of the book, certain ancient beliefs are a demonstration of their existence. Thus, Brigitte Rochelandet explains for example that in medieval times, certain theologians believed that women aged more quickly than men because of… their “three natural openings (womb, anus and mouth), through which fresh air rushes in, unlike men who only have two.

In her study, she also evokes the ideas of the Bisontin Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-1865). “He was a defender of workers’ rights, but he only defended men. He was a defender of equality, but an extraordinary misogynist! » A book committed to better understanding our society and the cultural roots of this violence. Understand, to free yourself! A researcher who is part of a quest for equality between men and women.
