By unveiling the most complete monograph on Willlem de Kooning ever published, Phaidon intends to bring the surrealist painter out of the shadows, once and for all. Rather discreet during his lifetime, the Dutch artist is nevertheless one of the greatest figures of abstract expressionism, a pillar of the New York avant-garde of the 1940s.
