It is with a tight throat and a look filled with emotion that Guilhem Canal presented his book “ 50 ans, 50 regards“, this Thursday, November 7, 2024 at two days after the MHSC anniversary date. A book that is worth gold, like the eponymous wedding novels.

Accompanied by the MHSC resident Laurent Nicollin and of Gwenael Cadoret (editor of the work), this lover and passionate supporter of the club was able to highlight the work carried out to finalize the almost 350 pages of this book which traces the history of the club through 52 perspectives very precisely, because, in fact, two “bonus” interviews have been added.

“A family photo that reflects the club”

Through true legends of the Montpellier club, Guilhem Canal and his team have designed this book which presents itself as a reflection of the pailladin spirit. “We wanted to take a beautiful family photo that reflects the club,” explains Guilhem, who describes this opportunity as a “real childhood dream.”

Of Carlos Valderrama (whom the team went to meet in Miami) to Olivier Giroudpassing through Rolland Courbis, Remy Cabella, Vitorino Hilton or even Pascal Baillsa wide range of big names cover the chapters of this book, but not only: “there are also Eliane Gasset (mother of Jean-Louis Gasset, “to whom we offered to do a full-fledged interview, after his interventions, during our meeting with the current MHSC coach,” specifies Guilhem, and then, we offered to Agathe et Baptiste Nicollin to tell us about their grandfather (Louis Nicollin) to have a look that we didn’t yet know.”

For his part, Laurent Nicollin wanted to salute the work provided by the entire team: “it’s a very beautiful project carried out by enthusiasts”, but it was not without apprehension that the challenge was undertaken with only a few months to complete this book, hundreds of pages later, where the history of the club would be reflected: “when Guilhem came to propose the project to us, we said to ourselves that it was going to be difficult, given the little time he would have, but it is a success and we are very proud of it,” rejoices the club president.

Written by, with and for enthusiasts

“This book is a tribute to the club, but also to all its supporters, to all the players and people who were part of it directly or indirectly,” explains Guilhem. During his meetings, the indelible love for the club was reflected in every look, in every word. “Valderrama is still in love with the MHSC, he still talks about it with as much passion. And even among young people, like Joris Chautardwe could see that this passion drove them every day,” says Guilhem enthusiastically.

It is therefore a book written by enthusiasts, with words from people who have left their mark and who have been marked by the MHSC, and who transmit this love to the thousands of supporters among whom the passion never dies. There will undoubtedly be thousands of them, even if the MHSC is bottom of Ligue 1, to attend the gala match, Saturday November 16, at 3 p.m. at La Mosson (single price of €5) with the former glories of La Paillade accompanied by the 2012 Champions against the former French internationals of the CIF: Carlos Valderrama, Julio César, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Vitorino Hilton, Souleymane Camara, John Utaka, Karim Aït-Fana, Joris Marveaux, Jamel Saihi, Henri Bedimo, Abdelhamid El Kaoutari, Geoffrey Jourdren, Hoda Lattaf, Tino Costa, local comedian Paul Mirabel (guest) are announced. They will write undoubtedly the firsts pages from another book by Guilhem Canal!
