Nothing to do, according to him, with the management of paths and trails on the Flemish side where certain sites are unmissable events: the Tower, the Great Hiking trail terminal, the tumulus, the Trou de l’Enfer, the large beech and the sweet chestnut tree, the Vierschaar (or the Christ Farm or the BosbAAr), the Love spring, the Kluisbos sports and leisure area, the sand pits, Peetje and Meetje, the Woodkeeper’s House (het boswachtershuis) etc.

Populated with many legends

C himIt’s Walloniecontinues Mr. Duponcheel, the paths are barely traced and left in their “natural” state with all that that implies. On the Flanders side, the paths are ” clearly traced, laid out with a light ash and even bordered by a light fence which discourages walkers from encroaching on the wood.

The book “Discovering the Enclus Wood (het Kluisbos)” has more than 170 pages in A4 format in color, half of which are reserved for illustrations and the other half reserved for texts, two thirds in French and one third in Dutch.

The notes presented are essentially based on the various explanatory panels scattered on the Flemish side of the woods (© ANB which has given its kind authorization to be able to reproduce these texts and translate them…). All this allows you to “Discover the Enclus wood – het Kluisbos)” and its historical treasures (buried or not), its localities, its spring flora, its fauna, its birds, its trees, its mushrooms and its boletes. …and even the cinematographic activities that the woods have recently hosted, proof, if any were needed, of its dynamism.

The book also evokes different legends which are current on the slopes of the hill, from the most famous (the legend of the counterfeiters) to the most recent (the legend of the Source of Love created for geocaching) including that by Peetje and Meetje or that of the bells of the bluebells (due to the pen of the late Maurice Pichon)…

A great reading opportunity for the fall and winter evenings to come.
