The Aude department has a policy of raising awareness of reading among toddlers and their families, supported in particular by the Aude departmental library (BDA) and the maternal and child protection service (PMI). Since 2021, the department, the family allowance fund (CAF) and the agricultural mutuality (MSA) have joined forces to set up the “First Pages” system launched by the Ministry of Culture. The objectives are to reduce inequalities in access to written culture, raise awareness among families of the importance of reading from an early age, and promote youth reading. This partnership allows the delivery of an album to parents who welcomed a child (birth or adoption) during the year 2023.

For this new edition, it is the book “Petits Mondes”, by Agnès Domergue and Clémence Pollet, which was chosen after consultations between the partners. “It was a democratic debate to choose the book,” smiles the departmental councilor in charge of Culture, Maria Conquet. A soft and tender poem on the theme of the body unfolds throughout this album where the baby sees the world through all his senses. In all families, for all children, the first steps are a joy!

The book is available from October 14 until February 14, 2025. Each family having welcomed a child born or adopted in 2023 will receive a letter inviting them to collect the album from the numerous distribution locations (in Belpech, it is at the media library).
