the essential
For almost 20 years, Chantal Ors has managed the library at the rural home and handled all literary requests.

A new season began in September for the library of the secular home of Verfeil, placed for almost twenty years under the responsibility of Chantal Ors. “I had just arrived in Verfeil. I remember that at the time, we operated thanks to book donations. There were mainly old books in the boxes that were brought to us… Some even dropped off copies of Fashions and Works,” she smiles.

“Tastes have evolved”

The library makes nearly 8,000 works accessible to date. “The most requested books are thrillers,” notes Chantal. This is why the novels of Bernard Minier, Franck Thilliez, Jean-Christophe Grangé, Harlan Coben or Fred Vargas occupy a large space. “Public tastes have evolved,” adds the librarian, who remembers that 20 years ago, “it was Daniel Steel who was very successful.” But writers of national, or even international, stature do not exclusively constitute the available stocks. Because Chantal also wants to present local authors, such as -based Stéphane Furlan who wrote “Ville rose sang”. On the shelves, his book sits alongside the writings of Gautier Battistella, or the first novel by Verfeillois writer Jacques Huchenq.

Manga: sure values

While the novels of the Countess of Ségur occupy a good place in the city library of the cemetery of Little Model Girls, the great classics, mangas and children’s books remain safe values. All alongside the latest works by Georges Perrec, Gautier Battistella and Franck Leduc. The library has also recently added a lounge area to allow its public to consult documents on site.

Library in the premises of the Foyer laïque, place Georges Lapierre below the school of the Countess of Ségur. The establishment is open three times a week (except school holidays): every Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. Info and registrations: 05 61 35 66 29.
