the Book Festival is scuttled
the Bron Book Festival is scuttled

There will be no 2025 edition of the book festival. The “Lire à ” association, which has been carrying out the project since 1987, has decided to close its doors. Its various activities are therefore buried with it: the Summer prize, the Booksellers’ Route, the high school meetings and of course the book festival, which has brought joy to bibliophiles and literature lovers for 38 years.

What led to this decision? The association speaks of “financial and organizational constraints”. “This decision is the result of reflection between the professional team and the administrators who made the choice, in their soul and conscience, to put an end to this adventure” adds the press release sent to the editorial staff.

This sad episode marks the end of a unique adventure. The Book Festival was born from the desire of book activist librarians, notably Colette Gruas and Véronique Forcet, who had little by little given this event a significant scale, transforming this brimming celebration into a national event.

Every year, publishers sent their great pens to Bron, as well as to , or Brive-la-Gaillarde. The festival attracted more than 40,000 visitors, who came to meet authors, or attend the meetings and debates, which had made the event’s reputation. Each year, the event’s programmers, including Brigitte Giraud, 2022 Goncourt Prize winner, chose a theme to bring these debates together. The last one was: “Save love”…
