Sparnacian media libraries regularly sort through their shelves to make room for new works. Since 2015, this so-called weeding operation has regularly given rise to a clearance sale which allows the public to buy novels, comics and other CDs at low prices. This was still the case at the end of September, at the Simone-Veil media library.

Those days 5,500 books of all kinds and more than 18,000 CDs were on sale. Not all of them found buyers but will now have a second life. “ To complete this sale and follow a circular economy approach, we are using the services of Ammareal”explains Sophie Herscher-Bousseau, deputy in charge of Culture. A decision taken during the last municipal council, on September 30.

Ammareal is a solidarity company of social utility. An online second-hand bookstore, which employs unemployed people. The sale of Sparnacian works will provide access to culture and information to the most deprived, via the Bibliothèque sans frontières association, to which Ammareal donates 5% of the price of each item sold. For its part, the City will recover 10%.
