As part of the Var Book Festival which will take place on November 22, 23, and 24, 2024 in Toulon, the Var Department has been organizing the Var Readers’ Prize for more than 20 years.
This award will be presented on Friday, November 22, during the inauguration. It rewards an adult novel, a children’s book and a comic strip from a selection of 3 works per category.
The 9 works, published since the start of the year, were selected by the Var Departmental Media Library to give the public a literary preview of the Var Book Festival 2024.
Born in 2005 at the initiative of the Department of Var, the Var Readers’ Prize is one of the rare literary prizes in France to be awarded by the readers themselves. Only the readers are the judges.
It is part of the Department’s desire to promote reading, to develop links between readers and authors, to encourage them to read and to have others read. The Var Readers’ Prize is one of the flagship actions of this policy.
The 9 works, published since the beginning of the year, were selected by the Var Departmental Media Library to give the public a literary preview of the Var Book Festival 2024. From June 21, and until October 19 2024, it is possible to go to the libraries and media libraries of the 96 participating Var municipalities to read and vote! 42 Var colleges also participate in the Prize by giving their students the opportunity to vote for two works in the comics category.
