The opportunity for the general public to approach multiple literary trends and soak up the poetry of this place facing the thousand-year-old bell tower of the Saint-Germain church.

In partnership with German-speaking institutions, such as Deux Magots, Castel, Lipp and the L’Écume des Pages bookstore, this first Book Fair aims to be long-lasting and to promote, again and again, Literature in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés district is that of literature. It was first the place where encyclopedists met during the Age of Enlightenment. Then, it was the turn of the publishers who, in the 19th century, brought in their authors like Georges Sand or Balzac. Finally, in the 20th century, it was first the surrealists then, at the Liberation, Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre who assiduously frequented this unique territory in the world.», underlines Jean-Pierre Le Coq, mayor of the 6th arrondissement.

And to add: “Even today, many bookstores and publishing houses continue this formidable heritage. It is in this same spirit that this Book Fair was born, testifying to a literary vitality that remains as strong as ever.. »

The prestigious publishing houses and large groups that make up today’s French editorial landscape responded. Guarantors of a literary heredity highly symbolic and talent scouts, their authors will follow suit here where Vian, Beauvoir, Sartre, Camus and so many others have remade the world and left their mark.

Involved for many years in cultural (founder of the Left Bank magazine, Cerise Paris City Magazine) and literary (author meetings, literary prizes) life in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, I imagined this Salon du book like a coherent event and consubstantial with Germanopratin DNA. I am very happy to produce this first edition and to make this Salon accessible free of charge, which will present an overview of all literary genres.», insists Carole Fernandez.
