Bessé-sur-Braye. The media library has dusted off its shelves

Since 2005, twice a year, the Bessé-sur-Braye media library has cleared its shelves of the least read, least current books, to make way for new collections. This is called weeding, a gardening metaphor that refers to the action of removing materials from a library’s collections.

On September 21 and 22, the media library offered hundreds of books for sale, of all genres, from cookbooks to novels, including comics and other travel guides, at prices accessible to all. scholarships. A sale which also makes it possible to avoid landfill and to offer a second life to these works, to which are added those from donations. And this year, the sale took place in the carriage room “ more spacious than the Orangery », explains Maryline Tortevoix, librarian.

Among the buyers, regulars of course, but also those who visited the Château de Courtanvaux, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, discovered this sale by chance. The librarian was delighted with a good turnout on Saturday morning. “ Books telling life stories are very popular, as are comics and large print books. And this year, I was surprised to see more teenagers looking for fantasy novels “. With prices so low, from €0.50 to €3, and books in perfect condition, everyone stocked up on books.

Next weeding: November 29 and 30 (Téléthon/AFM – French Association against Myopathies).
