Zacharie Richard opens the 40th Book Fair with a poem written during a sleepless night on the North Shore

Honorary President of the 40e Book Fair in Sept-Îles, Zacharie Richard took advantage of his turn to speak at the opening ceremony to share his vision of the history of humanity and recite a poem he wrote during a sleepless night among the Innu of the North Shore.

The author, composer, singer visits the Salon with his first novel “Les gusts du carème”. This is the first novel in French by a Louisiana author since 1894, recalled yesterday the host of the ceremony Bis Petitpas.

Opening of the festivities

Honorary president Zacharie Richard recounted the exploits of humans based on the use of tools, speech, then writing, before saluting the place of literature. The artist did not fail to greet his Innu friends Florent Vollant, Joséphine Bacon and Natasha Kanapé .

She officially received her Myriam-Caron literary prize last night. The opening ceremony also paid tribute to the volunteer of the year of the Côte- Book Fair Lorraine Vibert for 14 years of involvement.

The vast majority of authors for the 2024 edition were present from the first evening. Mayor Denis Miousse, President of the Board of Directors Marie-Soleil Vigneault and other dignitaries spoke at the opening ceremony.

Several youth activities marked the first day of the 40e Salon in Sept-Îles. For Innu author Mélissa Mollen Dupuis, the event allows a return to her north-coastal roots.
