Rick Karsdorp is now a PSV player. The 29-year-old right wing defender was a free agent after being under contract with AS Roma for the past seven years. The three-time Oranje international has signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional year.
With Rick Karsdorp, Director of Football Affairs Earnest Stewart adds almost three hundred matches of experience at the highest level to the A-selection. Rick plays for the Italian AS Roma in just over half of those matches. The other part he plays for Feyenoord, the club that trained him as a professional footballer.
Drive, power and running ability
After years of foreign service, Rick is determined to succeed at PSV. “It is great to be back in the Netherlands after seven years. My family and I are really looking forward to it,” he says. “With my drive, power and running ability, I fit in well with the game that PSV wants to play. I want to show the people here the Rick from his best days again, with good passes and useful crosses. At AS Roma I have had good and bad periods, so let’s go for a new good period to start now. In which we become champions and get as far as possible in the Champions League.”
European experience
Rick has a lot of international experience with almost sixty matches in the European competitions, several finals and a UEFA Conference League title. He is known as a defensive iron eater with a drive to move forward. For Earnest Stewart every reason to bring him to the Philips Stadium.
“With the departure of Jordan Teze, there was a vacancy at right back,” he explains. “Rick brings European experience to the mix of talent and routine that a selection contains. He is familiar with the Eredivisie and with his speed he fits in with Peter Bosz’s game. We are very happy that we now have him in-house.”
