Lukaku on Napoli ‘honour’ and Conte happiness after late Parma equaliser – Football Italia

Romelu Lukaku has said that it is an honour to be a Napoli player, and spoke of his happiness at working under Antonio Conte again, after scoring on his debut for the Partenopei in Saturday evening’s late 2-1 victory over Parma.

Lukaku emerged off the bench as a second-half substitute to grab an equaliser for Napoli in the second minute of stoppage time. Conte’s men snatched the three points in the 95th minute through Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The Belgian spoke of his pride to play for Napoli after scoring his first goal in an Azzurri shirt.

“It is an honour to play for this club, these fans and also for these lads, who gave me a really warm welcome. We worked really hard and the effort we put into training paid off,” Lukaku told DAZN.

“It is something of a habit that I score on my debut, but we won and that’s the most important thing.”

It is no secret that the Belgian pushed hard for this transfer so that he could reunite with his former Inter coach Antonio Conte, so how happy is he to be back with the boss?

“I am very happy, but now we need to work and keep winning,” he laughed.

Lukaku joined Napoli one day shy of the transfer deadline, signing a permanent, three-year contract until the summer of 2027.

Napoli agreed to pay Chelsea a fee of €30m, and also included a 30% sell-on clause to bring the 31-year-old back to Serie A for his fourth stint in the league with his third different Italian club.
