This Steven Spielberg masterpiece has been given the green light to return to our screens after a 40-year absence.

A great filmmaker

Steven Spielberg is one of the most prolific and influential directors of recent decades, having captivated generations of viewers with iconic works such as ET the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park and more recently The Fabelmans et Maestro. His ability to create stories that are both visually stunning and emotionally powerful has made him a fixture in cinema, inspiring and inspiring millions of people around the world. He’s tried his hand at almost every genre, and it’s impossible to know what’s next. What’s less familiar in Steven Spielberg’s filmography is sequels. However, the director could break that rule with this feature film whose The second part will not be released before 2026.

A new adventure 40 years later

Nearly 40 years after the release of the first part, and while nostalgia for the original film is still strong, The Goonies have been given the green light to return to theaters. As a reminder, The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure film directed by Richard Donner, but written and imagined by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus. The film follows a group of young friends, called the Goonies, who discover an old treasure map in one of their attics. The children then embark on a dangerous but exhilarating treasure hunt, with many adventures and frightening encounters along the way.

Little information is available at the moment, but everything suggests that it will be aa kind of rebootpossibly with cameos from the original cast. “The Goonies reboot has been talked about for a long time, but it has finally been given the green light to happen,” an anonymous source tells the outlet The Sun.

Remember, some of the actors from The Goonies are now international stars: the film had in its cast Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, now 53, and Josh Brolin. For now, the cast has not been defined and the script has not yet been written. However, the teams are already looking to the future. “The plan is to start developing ideas for the sequel next summer, with a possible release date in 2026 or 2027. As you can see, we will still have time before seeing the iconic band of budding adventurers back on our screens.” Especially since the source underlines the cult status of the first part, which absolutely must not be distorted. “The original is so culturally important that Warner Bros knows it has to be totally perfect.” As for Steven Spielberg, it is impossible to know what role he will play in this new production: director, producer or a second time screenwriter.
