Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing the boundaries even further. The Portuguese reached the incredible milestone of 900 career goals scored on Thursday during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia in the Nations League. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United idol victoriously took a cross from Nuno Mendes before falling to the ground in joy to celebrate reaching this very symbolic milestone.

“A figure I have wanted to achieve for a long time”

“It means a lot,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said after the match. “It was a number I had wanted to reach for a long time. I knew I would reach this number, because as I continued to play, it would happen naturally.” He explained his intense reaction after his achievement.

“It was emotional because, as I said, it’s a milestone,” he continued. “It’s like any other milestone, but only I know – and the people around me – how hard it is to work every day, to be physically and psychologically well, to score the 900th goal. It’s a unique milestone in my career.”

And CR7 doesn’t intend to stop there. “Records come naturally, as you know,” he confides. “I don’t break records, it’s the records that haunt me. So I’m happy. But for me, the most important thing is to focus on teamwork. After what we did at the European Championship, we had to leave a good mark and that’s what we did.”

The former Sporting player recently revealed on his YouTube channel that he wants to reach the 1,000 goal mark, sending a big tackle to Brazilians Pelé and Romario, who claim to have surpassed this total without really being able to prove it. “I want to reach 900 goals first, then 1,000,” Ronaldo smiled. “But with one difference: all my goals are filmed, I have proof. I respect them all, but I have proof… If you want more goals, I can bring the ones scored in training too, it’s not a problem.”
