The testimonies of the last people who lived the Second world War, the stories of two Swiss doctors returning from “L’Enfer” in Gaza, the interrogations imposed on the highest federal officials, illegal cat farms in French -speaking Switzerland and the quiz to test your knowledge on Eurovision: these are the choices of Rtsinfo week.
Testimonies – The last survivors of the Second World War
May 8, 1945 marked the end of the Second World War on the European continent, after six years of conflict. Even if the fall of Nazi Germany and fascist Italy has not made anti -Semitism disappear, it is the whole Jewish community in Europe that was breathing a little better, including in Switzerland.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of this date, the RTS offers a return to this dark period through testimonies from people who lived it. Between childhood trauma and other now more vague memories, a common certainty: the importance of preserving the memory of horrors in the face of the resurgence of racism, anti -Semitism and the extreme right in the world.
From May 8, 1945, Danielle Morris has only one vague and sad memory. “My mother had returned from Drancy. My father returned only much later. I was in Evian, but not in our house. I know that there was a party everywhere, but I was seven years old and I was hung on my mother. I had lost it, I never left her. And everything was sad. Just to listen to what they had experienced, and the memory of the horrors we had experienced before the arrest … had great sadness.

Interviews – Two doctors back from Gaza evoke “hell”
Deprived of everything, the Gaza Strip is dying under the Israeli blockade. Two Swiss caregivers return from “Hell”, Sonam Dreyer Cornut, doctors Without borders, and Hicham El Ghaoui, general practitioner and emergencyist, testify to the microphone of a territory where healing has become impossible.
Sonam Dreyer cornut describes the collapse of all essential infrastructure in the Palestinian enclave: more fuel, power cuts, food and medical shortages. “Everything that normally allows life, not to survive, but simply to live, disappears gradually. Today, even the most basic needs to treat patients and support the population are no longer assured.”
Hicham El Ghaoui has carried out three humanitarian missions in Gaza in recent months. But the doctor established in Valais has given up on again. “Honestly, I no longer really believe in medical missions. I do not know a single doctor who came from Gaza without being deeply frustrated or annihilated.”

survey – The controls imposed on the highest federal officials
Are you looking at porn sites? Do you have extra-marital relations? Why do you have so little money aside? This is the kind of questions that can be asked during the security checks that the highest officers must pass, ambassadors and senior officials with access to the most secret data in the Confederation.
These interrogations, which are led by a small team of profilers and which often last more than three or four hours, are compulsory for engagement and then repeat every five years.
This hunt for people at risk that the Federal Council has often named itself to the most sensitive functions is called into question. In Bern, there is this diffuse feeling that we go too far and that at the slightest problem, we eject people who have proven themselves for many years. So much so that the management committee of the Council of States has decided to verify its progress and the impact, as confirmed to the RTS investigation center its president Charles Juillard.

SOCIETE – Illegal cat farms in French -speaking Switzerland
Globally, animal trafficking is the most lucrative illegal business, after drugs and weapons. And Switzerland is not spared, in particular from the Cavid-19 pandemic. “When demand for pets exceeded the supply, prices have exploded. It showed traffickers the financial potential of this market,” said Nicolas Roeschli, of the Four Pattes Organization, in the program A good Enteur de la RTS.
Since 2020, the cases identified of illegal imports of pets have been multiplied by six. The majority of this traffic still concerns dogs, but the share of cats has climbed regularly in recent years to represent today 15.7% of cases.
The four -legged Foundation was able to go up certain sectors of these trafficking. Videos shot in hidden camera showed the disastrous conditions in which some dogs are raised, especially in Romania. “There were absolutely unhealthy conditions, animals piled up in cages, others guarded in enclosures covered with excrement, frightened animals, but also sick animals,” denounces Nicolas Roeschli.
