The two men express themselves after the interview: Trump puts pressure on Putin
After the interview, Donald Trump called on his Truth Social network to an “unconditional 30-day” ceasefire “in Ukraine. Russia like Ukraine “will have to account” and “if the cease-fire is not respected, the United States and its partners will impose other sanctions,” threatened the American president.
For its part, Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine was “ready” to lead “all formats of negotiations” with Moscow to find a way out of the conflict launched by the Russian invasion. “But for this to happen, Russia must show that it seriously wants to finish the war, starting with a complete and without conditions ceasefire,” continued the Ukrainian president, in a message published on social networks.
Before that, Zelensky had spoke by phone with Merz
The new German Conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke Thursday by phone with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and assured him of the continuous support of Germany in the war which opposes Russia.
-“The federal chancellor has reaffirmed Germany’s solidarity with Ukraine, which can count on the support of the new German government,” government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said in a statement, two days after Mr. Merz’s election to the Chancellery.
Note that Merz also had an exchange with Donald Trump earlier. The American president would have assured him that he was supporting European efforts “with a view to lasting peace” in Ukraine.
Donald “Trump said that he would firmly support German efforts” in this sense “in concert with France in Britain, Poland and other German partners with a view to lasting peace,” said the German Chancellor.
