Joseph Czuba was sentenced in Illinois (United States) to 53 years in prison for aggravated and Islamophobic murder of a child of Palestinian origin. According to CNN, justice has just officially confirmed the sentence pronounced last February against the respondent, now 73, for facts which occurred near Chicago, in October 2023. According to the accusation, “he would have acted under the influence of an anti-Muslim discourse disseminated by a conservative radio”.
The court held the counts of “aggravated murder because of religion” and “attempted murder”, since the attacker targeted the little boy, Wadee Alfayoumi, and his 32 -year -old mother, injured but rescued. The child was brutally attacked, a few days after October 7 and the start of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip. The victim and his mother, an American-Palestinian, stayed in a house where the killer rented rooms. The respondent had first attacked the mother by giving her a dozen stab wounds. “You, Muslims, must die,” he had shouted.
The child had wiped twenty-six stab wounds, before succumbing to his injuries in the hospital. The man would have explained his act by the fact that Muslims “could not stay” in his house. Then President of the United States, Joe Biden had condemned the murder, while the Sheriff’s office of the county of Will had described the attack on “odious”.
