Upon the night of Monday to Tuesday, the earthquake woke up the inhabitants with “very powerful vibrations” and “brief jerks”.
And “Big deaf boom”. Last night, around 3:40 am, the earth trembled in Isère, where an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 was measured. Sophie Lambotte, seismologist at the French seismological central office, confirmed to the newspaper The Dauphiné that the epicenter of the earthquake was in Sainte-Marie-d’Alloix, a small town in the Grésivaudan valley. The shock was felt until Savoie.
“It is a rather moderate earthquake that can be felt by the population”specifies Sophie Lambotte. And for good reason, several residents have testified to their experience on the NGO website “Euro-Mediterranean seismological center”. The inhabitants of Goncelin – three kilometers from the epicenter -, Theys and Barraux thus report alarm clock “In the middle of the night” because of “Vibrations of one or two very powerful seconds in the windows and within the walls”all “Followed by a big boom”.

No injured or important damage
But the Isérois are not the only ones to have known a hectic night, and on the NGO site, several users domiciled in Chambéry, Saint-Badolph or La Motte-Servolex (Savoie) have also felt “Brief shocks”.
If the Savoy firefighters did not report any injured or important damage, Sophie Lambotte has requested the testimony of the inhabitants, in order to “To assess the severity of the jolt”but also “To study all the variability of the movement of the soil and in particular the phenomena of site amplification”.
