RSA, taxes, gas, contributions … which changed in May 2025

While the month of May is often synonymous with public holidays and the beginning of sunny days, it is also accompanied by several changes for the French. Decrease in the price of gas, revaluation of social aid, tax deadlines or even evolution of employer contributions. Le Figaro takes stock.

Drop in gas prices

Good news for households heating gas: from May 1, the reference rate of the kilowatt hour (kWh) drops by 6.4%, going from 0.12412 Euro, to 0.1162 euros. This represents an average savings of 90 euros per year for a standard consumption of 11,500 kWh, an annual bill from 1427 euros to 1336 euros.

Frozes using gas only for cooking or hot water will also be advantaged: their price also decreases, from 0.1530 euro to 0.1451 per kWh, a decrease of 5.12%.

Revaluation of social aid

Announced on April 1, the annual revaluation of social benefits comes into force in May. As of May 5, the beneficiaries will receive their revalued aid up to 1.7%, in accordance with the evolution of inflation. The amount of the allocation to disabled adults (AAH) goes from 1033 euros per month, against 1016.05 euros before. This aid is intended for people with disabilities with an incapacity rate above 80%, or 50% in some cases.

Active solidarity income (RSA) now amounts to 642.52 euros per month for a single person, an increase of 10.81 euros. A childless couple will receive 969.78 euros, and a home with a dependent child will receive 1163.73 euros. Finally, the revaluation of the activity bonus will also be effective in May. As a reminder, a single person without children will now receive 633.21 euros (up 10.58 euros). For a beneficiary with three children, aid will reach 1393.08 euros (up 23.29 euros), each additional child allowing to obtain 253.28 euros.

The limits of tax declarations

Since April 10, the 2025 income tax declaration campaign (relating to 2024 income) has been open. Online deposit limits vary according to the departments:

• May 22 for the numbers numbered from 1 to 19,
• May 28 for the departments of 20 to 54,
• June 5 for departments from 55 to 976,
• May 20 for paper declarations or French residents abroad.

Adjustment of employer contributions

On May 1, a new adjustment of social contributions applied. Companies with less than 50 employees are now paying a rate of 0.3193%, and those of 50 or more employees are subject to a rate of 0.3233%. In addition, the rate of labor accidents, occupational diseases increases to 0.50 % and the rate of the employer contribution to unemployment insurance increases to 4.00 %.

Rejected payment of the energy check

Unlike previous years, the 2025 energy check will not be distributed in the spring. Its payment is postponed to November 2025, due to the late adoption of the 2025 finance law. In the amount between 48 euros and 277 euros, depending on the resources and composition of the home, this aid will remain valid until March 31, 2027. The government has asked the energy suppliers “To be flexible and benevolence” With regard to the beneficiaries awaiting their payment.
