A sixty -something man was killed at his home in Montreal by opening the door to a man disguised as a road signaler, explained the crown at the start of the of the alleged shooter on Monday morning.

“In the of a few seconds, his little apartment turned into a crime scene,” said Mr.e Jean-François Roy, Monday morning, at the Montreal courthouse.

Léon Fortin, 69, began to undergo his trial before jury for the premeditated murder of Réjean di Genova.

On June 3, 2023, the victim heard five kicks in the door of his room. By going to it, the 61 -year -old man, dressed only in a boxer, was greeted by the cannon of a revolver.

Mr. Di Genova, nicknamed “Gino”, was reached by six bullets and succumbed to his injuries.

Surveillance cameras inside the house of rooms located on rue Sainte-Catherine East, in the village, captured the shooter who rose the stairs, put gloves and took a revolver then pulled.

He would have left the weapon, a .357 Magnum, on Mr. Di Genova before quickly leaving the premises.

Alerted neighbors

Another resident of the building, Claude Lebreux, finally alerted the police from the corner an hour later when he was arrested by an immediate neighbor of the victim.

“Gino is dead,” said this neighbor to him, perplexed at the sight of the body on the ground.

If the DNA of Léon Fortin was not on the revolver used for the crime, the crown will still try to demonstrate that he was the shooter and that he acted in a premeditated manner.

During an interrogation with the police, the accused would have admitted having circulated in electric scooter on rue Sainte-Catherine, but would have denied having entered the house of rooms where the victim resided.

Surveillance cameras filmed a man dressed in an orange cap and a road signaller jacket that was circulating in the sector.

This man was dressed “from head to feet in the same way as the shooter,” said Mr.e Roy, who teams up with Me Jean-Philippe Mackay.

In just a few days, the investigators would have come back to Léon Fortin following the track of a Honda Civic which he would have led shortly before the crime.

The 69 -year -old was arrested five days later. His trial before jury will continue on Monday afternoon before Catherine Mandeville on Monday afternoon.
