Italian tennis is doing extremely well in recent months, whether on the male or female circuit with representatives such as Jannik Sinner, Jasmine Paolini or Lorenzo Musetti.
It is perhaps in this sense that, Tyra Grant, born of an American father and an Italian mother, decided this Sunday to change her sporting nationality. The 17-year-old player, who had reached the semi-finals of Roland-Garros Juniors last year, previously represented the United States.
But born in Rome and after having lived all his childhood in Italy, Grant made the decision to play now under the colors of the Italian flag, as she formalized on Sunday on her social networks:
-“My choice to represent Italy is due to the strong link that I woven with this country, being born and having grown up here. I really appreciate the warm welcome that the coaches reserved for me.
I would also like to thank the federation of the opportunity that was given to me to be able to play in Rome (she received a Wild Card for the main draw), in my city of birth, for my first tournament as an Italian.
I can’t wait to start this project with the Italian Federation. I am very grateful to President Binaghi and the Federation for this wonderful opportunity. Go Italy! »»
