While Richard Gasquet’s end of career is fast approaching (Biterrois will retire after Roland – Garros), our colleagues from The team interviewed him for almost 15 minutes to return to his incredible course.

After having made the page of Tennis Magazine at just 9 years old in 1996 and became the youngest champion of small AS at 12 in 1999, the Frenchman was forced to grow in a climate of pressure and waiting. And necessarily, it was hard to manage.

“It is clear that it was surreal. The story that I have been able to have, this expectation of the media and the public is . Was it a burden, a weight? Yes. It is clear that when you are , that you have 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 years old, you want to grow a little more in anonymity, with a little less pressure on your shoulders because this is where you develop mentally and physically. You try to have as little stress as possible and I still had a lot because of this expectation. »»
