We seem far from the tense situation of the 1920s and 2023 where, in the wake of the trigger of the war on a large scale in Ukraine, hovered the risk of an energy shortage in Switzerland. “The security of the supply of electricity was permanently guaranteed during last winter,” confirmed this Thursday afternoon the Federal Electricity Commission (ELCOM), during a press conference. During this period, hydraulic production has been greater than the average of recent years, not to mention the availability of Swiss nuclear power plants, as was that – high – of French nuclear.
The prospects for next winter remain, in the eyes of the national regulatory body, “overall good”. Consumers should see their invoice slightly decrease, as Werner Luginbühl, the president of the Elcom said. Likewise, the markets are not showing no shortage signals for the time being. And if the scenario of a total blackout like that which occurred on April 28 in the Iberian Peninsula cannot be completely dismissed, the former adviser to the Bernese States assured before the media that the risk was less in a Swiss much better integrated into the European network than Spain or Portugal. “The country has more than 40 cross -border lines,” said Werner Luginbühl.
