The conference of Bishops of France gives thanks for the election of Pope Leon XIV.
As a prefect of the dicastery for the bishops for two years, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost had regularly received the presidency of the conference and several bishops of France. He also accompanied Pope Francis in Marseille and Ajaccio.
His first appearance on the balcony of the Saint-Pierre basilica, his first words, his first blessing made the world feel his emotion, his deep joy and his humble resolution to serve all of humanity.
His vow of peace, that of the resurrected Christ, recalled the “Do not be afraid!” From Saint John Paul II, like his call to build bridges between human beings resumed that of Pope Francis to build bridges, rather than walls. A taste has been given a link that he will have with the Catholic faithful and with all of humanity.
-With all the Catholics of the world, the Catholics of France receive Leon XIV with gratitude. He is now the pastor that God gives to his church.
They thank him for accepting the choice made by his brothers from the Cardinals College. He now carries the demanding charge of Bishop of Rome, successor to the apostle Saint Peter. All measure the share of renunciation that such a mission requires; He was prepared by the various human and pastoral experiences which marked his life as much as religious and superior of congregation, as as a missionary and diocesan bishop. His faith will now be the rock on which the faithful of Christ will be able to support theirs; His word will strengthen bishops and Catholic faithful in their mission in the world as it is.
The Catholics of France are invited to pray for him, especially in the days which will precede the inauguration mass of his pontificate.
May the Holy Spirit be given to him in abundance so that he serves the unity of the Church of Christ, beyond the diversity of confessions, so that he finds the words that will awaken the conscience of humanity and peoples, so that his gestures and his example renew the joy of following Christ in his love for all humans.
