- Rumors persist concerning the upcoming departure of Antonio Hodgers from the Council of State.
- A by -election could take place in September in Geneva.
- The Greens are going through a difficult period after their recent electoral defeats.
- The green magistrate was elected in 2013 to the government.
In recent weeks, it is from the right of the political spectrum that the rumor of an upcoming departure from the territory, Antonio Hodgers came. Contacted, the latter denies. However, this Tuesday, concordant sources, the “Tribune de Genève” learned that the green magistrate is preparing to make an ad. Of his resignation? Our sources are convinced.
If it was verified, the departure of the elected green would be a surprise. Elected in 2013 to the Council of State, he had rempeded for a third term of five years in 2023 at the head of the territory department.
His resignation would provoke the organization of a by-election, the second since the appointment of the Green Fabienne Fischer in 2021. This had represented without success in 2023, leaving her colleague alone green within the government. Since this re -election, Antonio Hodgers has had a knit to leave with the right on several important files, without ever seeing really in difficulty.
Green in pain
A new partial would take place in a delicate climate for the Greens, sanctioned in the last cantonal elections, but also during the municipal elections. If it were to take place, partial could be organized in September. It takes several weeks to organize such a ballot and summer is approaching.
-The Greens should quickly designate a candidate in a pool who is not immense: a national elected official, an administrative advisor, or even a deputy would be interested in embarking on the race? Be that as it may, it is very likely that the election will be challenged by many candidates from other parties, from PLR to UDC via MCG.
Antonio Hodgers is a Wunderkind (child prodigy) of local policy. It belongs to the same generation as Pierre Maudet. He made his arms in the 90s in Meyrin and in the initiative committee “I saw there, I voted”, before being elected to the Grand Council in 1997, then to the National Council ten years later.
