In May 2022, the Friborg police had put their hands on 500 kilos of cocaine, delivered in coffee bags at the Nespresso factory in Romont (FR). Three years later, three men were charged by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Basel-Campagne for the offense of the drug law, announced the last Monday. These three Albanians, aged 30 to 34, was accused of having wanted to recover the cocaine in a terminal to transport it abroad afterwards.
According to the investigation, between April 28 and May 2, 2022, several people sought a maritime freight container in a terminal in the canton of Basel-Campagne. In this one, the bags of cocaine were mixed with the 300 jute bags which contained coffee.
But as the defendants did not find the container in time, it was transported by train to the legitimate recipient of coffee, the Nespresso factory. The degree of purity of the drug seized was largely between 97% and 100%, and the public prosecutor of Basel-Campagne estimated its value at 60 million francs.
In July 2023, the identification of people involved in the transport of white powder remained without result and the Friborg procurement had made a suspension against unknown. Now, the three accused are in detention. For the time being, they benefit from the presumption of innocence.
