In short:
  • Former federal advisor Alain Berset collaborated for a book with the psychiatrist Gregor Hasler.
  • The “Berset Code” explores strategies in the face of stress during the Covid crisis.
  • This intelligent reflection on power avoids the traps of classical personal development.

I consider that one should not entrust a strong responsibility, in a private or public company, to a person never passed with a shrink. It is a question of health responsibility. To wonder about yourself, about its intimate, psychic functioning seems to me to go so much as to brush my teeth. To laugh, think of Donald t.: I imagine that he never wanted to see such a therapist in his life.

Because I know the irrational fear that psychiatrists inspire in so many of my fellow citizens: these are crazy, neurotic, weak, manicodestive, schizos, the addictsetc., who are going to meet psy, isn’t it? We are a “patient”, if we “have to” go. And it is useless for all those who tell you that they have absolutely “no need”. Are they so sure?

Gregor Hasler is a German -speaking psychiatrist, specialist in resilience: the ability to resist trauma. Hasler has, in a way, put on his couch Alain Berset, former federal adviser who became secretary of the Council of . The politician, during the Covid crisis, asked the psychiatrist to come and talk to his teams. The two men sympathized. Hasler was interested in Berset’s attitude towards the stress of this enormous crisis. Berset was intrigued by the way Hasler thought about this particular situation.

After the pandemic, they saw each other again. They made their discussions a dialogue, then a book, “the” Berset Code “(Wörterseh editions). a few months ago in German -speaking , it was a bookstore success. The fascinating version has just been released.

Obviously, we are not Alain Berset. His story, his genetics, his , everything has contributed – the book explains it – to give it this ability to hold, to make the share of things, to define priorities, to decide under tension, not to be achieved too much by hostility or criticism: he admits to be mistaken, Berset, from time to time, but he advances, persuaded to do his . As the book is however subtitled “practical resilience strategies”, it sometimes resembles a kind of pseudo-vade-mecum of personal development. As if we all had to be able to do like him. This is born a slight annoyance to read “The” Berset Code “: this heroisation, the frilling arrogance of his self-confidence.

But above all, it emerges an intelligent reflection on the power, the burden that goes with it, the finesse that it takes to it with a no sense of the common good. “The” Berset Code “ is never stupid, nor ridiculous. An unpleasant vertigo seizes: with which or which of the other federal advisers of recent years, including those in office, such a would, on the contrary, have been completely sunk in stupidity and ridicule?
