Nearly 3000 people gathered Thursday in Basel for the traditional event of the Labor Day. Placed under the slogan “Solidarity rather than hatred. Union is strength!”, It took place in calm, to the official arrival point.

(Keystone-ATS) The procession was led by revolutionary anti-capitalist groups as well as pro-Palestinian activists. The unions and the PS paraded at the tail of the procession. The demonstrators peacefully moved from Massplatz to the Rhine, to Barfüsseplatz, the official final gathering point.
-The slogans denounced in particular the fact that the extreme right seized the political agenda, also in Switzerland, in particular by the exclusion of minorities and migrants.
Participants from the ranks of unions, parties from the parliamentary left and the group of undocumented migrants remained on the party site, on the Barfüsserplatz. A few hundred activists from the anti-capitalist block and the pro-Palestinian movement have continued their march towards the banks district.
Tomatoes against UBS
After critical speeches – including the unions and the PS – tomatoes were then launched against the facade of the UBS seat and against a few police vans. The police remained behind, even when the procession made a detour to return to the Barfüsserplatz.
Shortly before 1:00 p.m., cantonal police in Basel-Ville announced on WhatsApp that traffic in the city center is done again without restrictions.
