After years of waiting, the construction of the Biennese campus of the Bernese high school specialized took a symbolic stage on Tuesday with the burial of the time capsule. This training and research center will accommodate 2,350 students and teachers.

(Keystone-ATS) This university complex which is due to open its doors in 2028 is one of the most important projects in Switzerland at present. The Biel/Bienne campus will house the technical and computer departments under one roof as well as the Bernese specialized high school (BFH).
-The cost of this infrastructure located behind the station amounts to some 400 million francs. In 2017, the Grand Bernese Council approved a realization credit of 233.5 million francs. Since then, the costs have continued to take the elevator. This campus is funded by the canton and the Confederation with the participation of a private partner.

Delay of several years
The site has already started for several months. The work kicks, however, was delayed due to a legal battle with the owner of a building located on the site which had opposed, since 2018, to its expropriation. The campus will see the light of day with a delay of about eight years on initial planning.
“The beginnings were laborious,” said the mayor of Bienne Glenda Gonzalez Bassi, noting that it was necessary to show tenacity and cooperation between all the partners so that this project is realized. “It is an investment for our society, for the future, for the economy and for our democracy”.
The building will be made of wood from Switzerland and European forests managed permanently. He will also meet high energy and environmental standards, said the canton of Bern. Called “Trèfle” This project brings together three wings around a common center, forming a three -leaf clover.
