The draw for the Afrobasket 2025, which took place this Friday, May 9, 2025, placed Senegal in group D alongside Mali, Egypt and Uganda. This new edition of the African male basketball championship will take place from August 12 to 24 in Angola, a major event for African basketball.
Senegal, in search of a first continental title since 1997, and its 6th historic coronation, will have major opponents to face in this group phase. The group D promises interesting meetings, with formidable teams like Egypt, African champion in 2017, and Mali, still competitive on the continental scene. Uganda, on the other hand, represents a challenge not to be underestimated, having shown great performances in recent years.
The Afrobasket 2025 will bring together the best teams on the continent, including prestigious selections such as Tunisia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Angola, the host country. The matches will take place in two Angolan cities: Luanda, where the matches will be held at Kilamba Arena with a capacity of 12,700 seats, and Namibe, with the Multiusos Welwitschia Mirabilis Pavilhao, which will be able to accommodate 3,500 spectators. This edition will also mark a historic first for Angola, which will become the first African country to organize Afrobasket in more than one city.
