The tragedy that occurred this Thursday, May 8 in Ngor continues to haunt the spirits. The partial collapse of a five -story building cost the lives of two men, trapped on the third floor. Twelve hours of intense research did not save them.
According to the observer, the victims are a Senegalese and a Franco-Algerian, both residents of the collapsed building. Several local sources speak of a Senegalese thirties domiciled with his family in the building, and a Franco-Algerian temporarily who came to Dakar as part of a professional project. They were together in the same apartment at the time of collapse, according to the elements collected by the observer with witnesses and help.
The two men were allegedly surprised by the collapse while the building already showed disturbing signs of cracking. “They did not have time to go out,” a neighbor told the observer. The firefighters, who had to mobilize significant resources-drones, sniff dogs, building specialists-, could not reach their position until late in the evening, around 8:30 p.m.
Commander DIA, who directed the operations, explained in the observer that the location of the two victims had been difficult despite the indications given by the first survivors. Their tragic death recalls the faults of the constructions control system in certain urban areas of Dakar.
