To strengthen awareness of gender -based violence (VGB), associations such as the Association of Senegalese lawyers (AJS), the Dafadoy collective (enough) and the Jgen feminist association have decided to unite their forces to better focus the fight.
“Our objective is to bring together our forces to be able to work more on innovative and effective methods to strengthen the advocacy against violence against women,” said Aminata Fall Niang, president of AJS, APS, on the sidelines of a plea and capacity building workshop on sexual violence in Senegal.
She also said that the causes of gender -based violence are multiple and the role of associations is to strengthen awareness through communication and advocacy actions.
According to the president of the AJS, which referring to the latest survey by the National Statistics and Demography Agency (ANSD) in November 2024, stresses that more than “15 % of women are now victims of violence or have experienced violence at least once in their lives”.
To put an end to these violence, these associations argue for the application of repressive laws as well as their popularization.
