The secretary general of the Confederation of Autonomous Unions (CSA) of Senegal, Elimane Diouf expressed his concern in the face of the continuous degradation of the purchasing power of the Senegalese. He also stressed that the government was expecting a tax system reform, with the aim of distributing the tax burden between all taxpayers.
“As part of the current negotiations around our minimum platform, we have highlighted several priorities: the increase in purchasing power, the drop in prices for basic necessities, as well as that of electricity costs. We are in the oil and gas era, which gives us the means of these ambitions. We have also proposed a reduction in water taxation and a global revision of taxation, “he said.
According to Mr. Diouf, the current tax reform aims to expand the tax base so that all workers contribute, and not only employees in the formal sector. “The government is reforming the tax system to allow workers to blow a little. It is a question of ensuring that the tax burden is not only based on a minority, but is shared fairly, “he added.
Returning to his expectations, the trade unionist insisted on the need for concrete measures concerning housing. “The question of rent is also part of this set of claims, provided that you set up a really effective housing access system for workers in the informal sector. We hope that these will not be simple announcements. This is what we expect from the government concerning purchasing power, “he said on Iradio.
