Former minister Mansour Faye sent a direct appeal to the President of the Republic, claiming the publication of the General State Inspectorate (IGE) report on the management of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (EESC) under Aminata Touré. A thunderous outing that relaunches tensions between ancient allies of the Benno Bokk Yakaar coalition.
Now from the ex-president of the EESC “Tata Dolores”, today, now a high representative of the Head of State, Mansour Faye has not mince his words. In a public declaration, he evokes the 2007-809 decree of June 18, 2007, which gives the President of the Republic the only prerogative of deciding on the continuation of the IGE, particularly in matters of publication.
“I solemnly ask the president to declare the report of the December 2020 mission on the EESC,” said Mansour Faye, saying that this approach is part of the commitments of the new regime in favor of transparency and accountability. Going further, he directly challenged Aminata Touré. A personal spike that testifies to the deep fracture between the two figures of the old power.
In the same vein, Mansour Faye strongly criticized the President of the Republic for his recent remarks on justice. Reacting to a television interview where the Head of State evoked the need to “put pressure on justice”, the former minister recalled that the judges are only subject to the authority of the law, in accordance with article 90 of the Constitution. “This authoritarian drift begins to exasperate a silent majority of Senegalese, deeply attached to the rule of law,” he alerted, denouncing a climate of confusion which could, according to him, shake the foundations of Senegalese democracy.
